Duckweed [Out Of Stock]
- Physical Description
It is a high nutrient-requirement plant, thus particularly useful in new
aquaria as "natural" filtration of water. It can be used to reduce the
nutrient load in a body of water. Because it so readily takes up phosphorus and nitrogen, duckweed essentially converts waste-water into usable biomass. If
this plant does not grow well, it is a certain sign of nutrient deficiency in the
water. Rarely will there be troublesome algae with duckweed on the surface.
High in protein, fats and calcium, it is a nutritious food source (and an excellent
natural laxative) for vegetarian fishes such as goldfish and carp.
